Helena Crosland

Ecotoxicology and risk assessment

Helena joined CEA in 2020 as an ecotoxicologist and risk assessor, preparing regulatory dossiers for non-target organisms with a primary focus on higher tier methods. Prior to joining CEA, Helena worked in HSE CRD (Heath and Safety Executive; Chemicals Regulation Division) within the Ecotoxicology team. She evaluated dossiers for active substances and formulated products (for Plant Protection Products as well as biocides) both at the UK and EU level. This involved evaluation of studies and risk assessments for all groups of non-target organisms at both lower and higher tiers.

Since joining CEA Helena has gained experience in updating risk assessments for active substance dossiers; developing higher tier bird and mammal risk assessments targeted to address specific issues for pesticide product dossiers; conducting and evaluating extensive literature reviews aimed at answering specific research questions; designing and monitoring field residue trials; and critically evaluating existing datasets to propose options for higher tier refinements for several organism groups.

Helena holds an MBiolSci in Biology with a focus on evolutionary ecology.
