Jo joined CEA in October 2021 to work as a toxicologist and has over 15 years experience of land contamination and risk assessment, with a focus on human health.
Jo holds a PhD in ecotoxicology from the University of Sheffield, a MSc in Pollution and Environmental Control from the University of Manchester, is a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), Specialist in Land Condition (SiLC) and a Suitably Qualified & Experienced Person (SQP) under the National Quality Mark Scheme for land contamination reports. Jo is also a Society of Brownfield Risk Assessment (SoBRA) accredited risk assessor (ASoBRA) for human health.
Prior to Joining CEA, Jo worked as an Associate Technical Director at RSK Geosciences for seven years, where she led the RSK Geosciences Quantitative Risk Assessment Team. Prior to this she worked in the field of environmental public health at Public Health England, primarily focusing on chemical incident management (domestic and industrial), risk communication and supporting regulatory agencies in public health risk assessments for industrial activities. Prior to this Jo worked in land contamination, air quality and environmental permitting in local government for six years.
Her key areas of expertise are land contamination risk assessment, focused on risks to human health, which requires an in-depth understanding of toxicology and human health risk assessment of chemicals in drinking water, soil and air.
